Citizen Science Africa

Science becomes more powerful when more people can take part.

A citizen-science association connecting communities, schools, researchers and institutions to observe the environment and turn those observations into useful evidence

Why Africa

Important environmental questions need observations made close to home.

An example. Lake Tanganyika and its shoreline. Wetlands and biodiversity. Hills, watersheds and farmland. Schools and communities close to all of it. Each holds questions about an environment that can be observed over time by the people who live, study and work there.

Where we could begin

Two project ideas, more to come

01 · Water

Lake Tanganyika community observatory

Training community participants and students to make repeated observations of water conditions along the lake, with scientific partners supporting validation and interpretation

02 · Schools

School environmental observatories

A school adopts a nearby stream, wetland or rainfall point and observes it across the year, turning environmental education into participation in genuine research.
